Question 9

What are the 14 allergens?

Accepted Answer

The 14 allergens that must be declared under UK food law are: celery, cereals containing gluten, crustaceans, eggs, fish, lupin, milk, molluscs, mustard, peanuts, sesame, soybeans, sulphur dioxide (sulphites), and tree nuts. Our free allergen matrix template covers all 14 and is a simple way to record them across your menu.

Question 10

What is Natasha's Law?

Accepted Answer

Natasha's Law is the UK requirement for foods that are prepacked for direct sale (PPDS) - such as sandwiches made and packaged on site - to carry a full ingredients list with allergens emphasised. It was introduced following the death of Natasha Ednan-Laperouse. Our Natasha's Law compliance guide explains exactly who it applies to and what your labels must include.

Question 11

When did Natasha's Law come into effect?

Accepted Answer

Natasha's Law came into effect on 1 October 2021 and applies across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. From that date, all PPDS foods must display a full ingredients list with the 14 allergens emphasised.

Question 12

Can customers filter by specific grains or nuts?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can specify exactly which gluten-containing grains (wheat, barley, rye, oats) and which tree nuts (almond, hazelnut, walnut, cashew, pecan, Brazil nut, pistachio, macadamia) are in each dish. Customers can then filter for the exact one they avoid - and if you haven't specified which grain or nut a dish contains, the dish is hidden from that filter to be cautious.

Question 13

How often should I review my allergen information?

Accepted Answer

Review your allergen information at least every 3 months, and whenever a recipe, ingredient, or supplier changes. With Allergenius, updates take seconds and are reflected instantly across your menus, QR codes and PDFs - no reprinting needed.

Question 14

Does changing a display name break my QR codes?

Accepted Answer

No. Renaming a menu or location never changes its share link or QR code, so your printed posters, table tents and stickers keep working exactly as they are.
