Last updated: 8 February 2025

Dietary Labels

Beyond allergens, Allergenius lets you mark items with dietary labels to help customers with specific dietary requirements.

Available Dietary Labels

Vegetarian 🥬

Items that contain no meat or fish. May include:

  • Eggs
  • Dairy products
  • Honey

Vegan 🌱

Items containing no animal products whatsoever:

  • No meat, fish, or seafood
  • No eggs or dairy
  • No honey or animal-derived ingredients

Adding Dietary Labels

  1. Edit the menu item
  2. Find the Dietary Information section
  3. Toggle on applicable labels
  4. Save your changes

Display on Menus

Dietary labels appear as badges on your public menu:

  • Customers can quickly identify suitable items
  • Labels are colour-coded for easy recognition
  • Filtering allows customers to show only items matching their diet

Best Practices

Be Accurate

Only mark items if they truly meet the requirements. A "vegan" item with butter is misleading and potentially harmful.

Consider Preparation

Even if ingredients are suitable, consider:

  • Shared cooking equipment
  • Cross-contamination risks
  • Cooking oils used

When in Doubt

If you're unsure whether an item qualifies:

  • Don't add the label
  • Add a note in the description
