Nutritional Information
Add nutritional information to your menu items.
Nutritional Information
Allergenius allows you to add nutritional information to individual menu items, giving customers more detail about what they're eating.
What is Nutritional Information?
Nutritional information includes details like:
- Calories per serving
- Macronutrients (protein, carbohydrates, fats)
- Vitamins and minerals
- Serving size information
Enabling Nutritional Display
Nutritional information is disabled by default to keep your menu clean. To enable it for a specific item:
- Edit the menu item
- Find the Nutritional Information section
- Toggle "Show Nutritional Information" to ON
- Enter your nutrition data
- Save your changes
Two Input Options
You can provide nutritional information in two ways:
Option 1: Text Entry
Enter nutrition details as text. This is ideal for:
- Simple calorie counts
- Brief nutritional summaries
- Custom formatting
Example:
Calories: 450 | Protein: 25g | Carbs: 35g | Fat: 18gOption 2: Image Upload
Upload an image of your nutritional label. This is ideal for:
- Pre-packaged products with existing labels
- Detailed nutrition panels
- Products where you have manufacturer data
Tip: Use a clear, high-resolution image for best results.
Note: You can use either text OR image—not both at the same time.
How It Displays to Customers
When enabled, nutritional information appears:
- At the bottom of the menu item card on the public menu
- Clearly labelled so customers know what they're viewing
- In a format that's easy to read on mobile devices
Best Practices
Be Accurate
Ensure all nutritional data is accurate and up-to-date. Inaccurate information can mislead customers and potentially cause health issues.
Keep It Readable
For text entries:
- Use consistent formatting
- Include units (g, mg, kcal)
- Keep it concise
Update Regularly
When recipes change:
- Update nutritional information immediately
- Consider seasonal variations
- Account for ingredient substitutions
Consider Your Audience
Not all items need nutritional information:
- Focus on items where customers expect it
- Pre-packaged items often require it by law
- Health-conscious menu sections benefit most
Legal Considerations
In some cases, nutritional labelling may be required by law, particularly for:
- Pre-packaged foods
- Chain restaurants (in some regions)
- Specific product categories
Check your local regulations to ensure compliance.
